ALPINE LAKES

WILDLIFE

Day-by-Day Tour Itinerary

1. Bishkek — Lake Issyk-Kul — Skazka (Fairytale) Canyon
From the capital of Kyrgyzstan, Bishkek, we will head to a waterside village Tosor located on the southern shore of Lake Issyk-Kul.

A guest house on the lake shore will be our home for the next couple of days.
In the afternoon I will show you the Fairytale, which is the name of this canyon that looks totally out-of-this-world.

The next two nights we will be staying in the guest house by Lake Issyk-Kul.
2. Lake Issyk-Kul — Djety-Oguz (also Jeti-Oguz) Gorge — Barskoon Waterfall
A 90-km ride along the scenic shore of Lake Issyk-Kul and we come to one of the most atmospheric places in Kyrgyzstan. Three-hour trekking in the hills of Djety-Oguz gorge will leave you with a lasting impression of Issyk-Kul nature beauty.

In the afternoon we'll enjoy cool, fresh air in Barskoon gorge (also Barskaun) and see Tears of Bars waterfall (which is a snow leopard). Yuri Gagarin loved to relax here during his recovery after the spaceflight.

And there is no better way to end the day than watching the sun set on the shore of lake Issyk-Kul.
3. High mountain lake Son-Kul
High mountain lake Son-Kul. It's a big alpine lake at an altitude of more than 3016 m. above sea level. This is the area of eco-tourism with pristine pastures, plenty of birds and livestock.

We'll get there by a scenic road through Naryn Region with high mountain passes of the inner Tian Shan.

And spend a night in a yurt by the lake between clouds and mirror-like water surface.
4. Kazarman Passes and Naryn River Valley
Kazarman was one of the strategic cities during Basmachi revolt in Turkestan. It was here where local fighters for independence from Imperial/Soviet authority hid from the enemies.
Now this district is absolutely safe, but it's still difficult to reach and sparsely populated.

On our way we'll admire the most picturesque and highest passes of Kyrgyzstan and breathtaking views around us stretching hundreds of kilometers.

We'll visit the valley of one of the main waterways in Central Asia, Naryn River.

We will spend the night in Kazarman guest house.
5. Jalal-Abad and Arslanbob
We leave behind another mountain pass and find ourselves in hot western part of Kyrgyzstan located in mountainous areas of Fergana Valley. Abundance of fresh fruit and vegetables.

In the afternoon we'll get to a fairytale mountain village Arslanbob. There we'll see the largest ancient relict walnut grove. Legend has it that Alexander the Great brought walnut to Europe from this region.

We'll spend a couple of nights in a guest house with a stunning view.
6. Arslanbob
It's a cozy multinational mountain village, which boasts its ancient relict walnut groves with fresh, cool air, light trekking and waterfalls.

Here we'll do some leisure activities to have a rest after long journeys in Naryn and comfortably acclimatize to the southern climate after the northern Kyrgyzstan regions.
7. Aksu Valley
Eight nature reserves, ancient walnut groves and clear lakes. Riot of flora and fauna.

If you wanted to have a house in Kyrgyzstan, I'm more than sure that you would be looking for it here.

We'll take a long picturesque road to the house of a humble and very hospitable Kyrgyz family.
8. The Sary-Chelek Nature Reserve
It is rightfully considered to be one of the best nature reserves of Kyrgyzstan and is inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Mild humid climate, rich smell of flowers and pine trees, amazing views on small and large lakes, relict walnut groves.

I personally recommend to have a horse riding trip here. And the crown jewel of the nature reserve is a high mountain lake Toskol-Ata.

They say, a boatman sometimes gives lake tours.
9. Toktogul Reservoir and Bishkek
It's the largest one in Central Asia. The water reservoir was formed by constructing Toktogul hydropower station dam. A winding serpentine road along the river Naryn leading to Toktogul valley is a magnificent view.

The water in the reservoir is warm. We'll have a swim there and then sunbathe on an empty wild beach. To my mind, this is the most picturesque "big lake" of Kyrgyzstan.
